Market Research with Milly...

Country Road

Style: Womens and Mens Everyday casual wear through to office wear.
Price: Mid- range
Country Road offers mid-range priced clothing with good quality fabrics and finishings. The clothes are mass marketed, made in China, and often come in a variety of colours. They are sold in many other countries. The knits often contain 100% merino or 100% wool or are a blend. There are often sales or discounts which shows the high turn around that the store has. I feel that Country Road has a great range of basics and layering clothes.

Here is an example of 100% extra-fine merino wool, priced at $149.00 and then discounted $111.75.
KowTow

Style: Fairtrade clothing of an urban/layering style
Price: Mid Range
KowTow is a brand that I have recently come across in this class. I feel that KowTow has some really cool and simple pieces that are easy to layer and would be very useful - an extra benefit is that they are an  Organic Fair-trade clothing line. Although they are organic I think that their clothes are very reasonably priced. The line is very popular - I tried to look for the line in Good as Gold and found that they were completely sold out, their online sales were sold out in some styles too. I think that they have really hit the right market with their designs and the fair-trade factor. Some great inspiration for my line!

Zambesi

Style: High-fashion women's and mens wear.
Price: High market prices

Zambesi is a New Zealand label that is well known internationally. The line is very experimental and contemporary which explains its high prices. Many of the clothes are made in very limited numbers, so they are very individual and one-off. The clothes are made to a high standard. Their recent collection features a very fresh/bright yellow (very similar to the one I chose for my first project) and an electric blue; I really like how the colours have been used as it is nice to see some bright colours in a winter collection and they are also used very tastefully and not too garishly.  Here are the examples...

Just Jeans

Style: Girls & Boys, Mens & Women's on trend clothing
Price: Low Price Range

Just Jeans is a mass produced label that has a very high turn around of on the beat clothes. It has a great selection of Jeans but also sells jackets, dresses, tops, shorts etc etc. Most of their clothing is made in China which explains its cheap price range. They regularly have sales which makes it more accessible to many people and shows the high turn around. I found the store was quite tightly packed with lots of different styles of clothing. It is obvious that lots of money is spent on the advertising because there is a lot of it all over the walls; they also advertise on TV - I think this is to show people who wears it, how wearable it is, and how much fun they have wearing it! The shop also sells a variety of other branded jeans including, Calvin Klein, Lee and Levi's - these are slightly more expensive.

Kate Sylvester

Style: High-end women's wear
Price: High prices (with some mid range prices)

Kate Sylvester is a well-known High-End New Zealand designer. Her clothes are very good quality and made in both China and New Zealand.
She uses a variety of non-synthetic fabrics such as mohair and silk which is why her prices are that little bit higher. I feel that her style is very sophisticated and womanly - focused very much at the working office woman.
